The rap Queen has released some of the items that will be featured in her Spring Collection and they do not disappoint! When we originally heard Nicki was doing a Kmart line, saying many were skeptical is an understatement. As most celebrity fashion lines are pretty pricey and apparel sold in Superstores is not necessarily of the same high end quality. Although there are families that buy their clothes in superstores but I'm sure it's not the first choice of teen girls looking for trendy pieces or young women looking to add some fashion forward items to their wardrobe. Nicki's business endeavors outside of music range from her own perfumes and cosmetics to partnerships with BEATS by Dr Dre and Myx Fusions moscato; all of which come with fairly expensive price tags. So one may wonder why Minaj decided to partner with Kmart to do a collection of items at lower price points and thus expected lower quality. In a backstage interview with Power 105's The Breakfast Club at their Powerhouse concert in November (can be viewed below) Nicki expressed her commitment to making sure that her collection be of exceptional quality, but that people could see Nicki herself wearing the items and thus be proud of wearing and purchasing them, even if the purchase is made at Kmart.
Consequently, when her line came out many skeptics and naysayers were presently surprised with what it consisted of. Judging from the preview photos she posted on her Instagram and the fact that she had been spotted out wearing several items from the collection, the consensus was that the clothes were very fashionable. The jury however was still out on the quality. In the same aforementioned interview, Minaj expressed that she did not just have a collection that was being offered in Kmart stores, but in fact she had her own section similar to an independent boutique. And if you've been to a Kmart recently you know that she is not exaggerating. The Nicki Minaj Collection at Kmart has an ambiance completely separate from the rest of the store. The displays, color palette and the layout are specific to how Nicki wants her clothing and accessories to make her Barbz and customers feel. Not to mention the clothes made exactly how they were (material, craftsmanship, etc) could have easily been a part of a department store line instead of being featured in the Kmart superstore.
As Nicki pulled off the launch of her Kmart collection, she continues reaching toward the noble feat of making teens and young women everywhere say that they are proud to shop there with her Spring Collection. Check out the preview photos she posted to her Instagram late Thursday evening below (P.S. The purple lace up bootie being worn with the first outfit can be found at our online store.
