Surely on your journey to fitness you've realize that the best workouts can be negated by poor eating habits. Also no matter how much you try, it's nearly impossible to ONLY lose the unwanted cushion in your midsection. So we've decided to share some fat filled, fat busting foods that should be added to your diet immediately to make the very most of those ab workouts.
You're probably wondering how eating fatty foods can help you lose fat. And the answer is that different foods contain different types of fat and some are better for you than others. The good fats that you want to include in your diet are Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFA's). These fats are plant based and they have a number of healthy effects on your body. Foods rich in MUFA's help to increase your basal metabolic rate which helps your body burn more fat at a faster pace. In addition to the belly sliming benefits, foods with a moderate to high MUFA content also help your body better absorb the nutrients from other foods in your meal and increase heart/cardiac function. They also help preserve lean body mass(muscle) during weight loss. Check out this list of 6 MUFA rich foods to try:
- Oils -- When preparing salads or stemmed veggies, toss a tsp of Olive Oil to help increase fat burning and to better absorb the nutrients from your meal.
- Nuts and seeds -- Almonds and chickpeas are two of the best to incorporate into your diet. Keep some in your snack cabinet, in your desk and in your bag for when you need something to snack.
- Avocado – There are so many benefits of including this superfood in your diet. Avocados decreases inflammation, clear blood vessels and thus decrease energy expenditures (less energy required to circulate) to promote heart health. They also have essential fatty acids and antioxidants that increase boost fat burning benefits. Avocados are also good for inducing satiety (fullness) and nutrient absorption.
- Dark/semisweet chocolate – I myself, am a full blown chocolate addict. And it used to be the main thing I gave up when I began to notice that I was packing on some unwanted pounds. That was before I discovered my new love, dark chocolate. Without all the excessive fat and sugar of milk chocolate, dark chocolate is a much healthier option to curb cravings for salty, sweet and fatty foods all at once. Not only does dark chocolate help burn fat, but it also slows digestion thus increasing satiety. Chocolate contains caffeine so instead of drinking an extra cup of coffee or a soda, eat a couple of dark chocolate squares to boost your energy. Now there is a big difference in tast between milk chocolate and dark chocolate. So if you are going to try it, I suggest that you start with a lower percentage of to slowly accustom yourself to the taste.
- Green tea – With caffeine and antioxidants, Green Tea hydrates like water and increases fat burning and does wonders to help reduce a tummy pouch.
- Yogurt – Yogurt contains 50% more calcium per ounce than milk. Increased levels of calcium in the body help increase fat burning and reduce the likelihood that calories are stored as fat. Calcium supplements work as well but low-fat dairy products work best.
As we always say, although foods may be good for you, they still must be consumed in moderation. The true key to weight loss is consuming less calories than you exert throughout the day as well as maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. And as beneficial as MUFA's are, they cannot do the work on their own. So try combining your regular ab workout with these key foods and watch that dreaded belly fat disappear!
